About the speaker: Gunter Beitinger is the SVP of Manufacturing, Head of Factory Digitalization, and Head of Product Carbon Footprint/SiGreen at Siemens AG. He studied process automation, industrial engineering and business administration. In addition to his doctoral thesis, he has published more than 35 scientific articles and holds various patents. After 5 years as a Research Collaborator at the University of Erlangen, he started his career in 1999 as a manufacturing planner in the automotive industry. From 2000 to 2003, he was Plant Service and Project Manager in both Mexico and the USA, and from 2003 to 2005, he worked as a Management Consultant for the executive board of Siemens VDO Automotive. In 2007, he became Director of Industrial Engineering at Siemens Healthcare and supported his team of specialist healthcare manufacturing sites, laboratories, research centres and hospitals to increase efficiency and productivity. In these positions, he has coached lean and change projects for plants, offices, laboratories and hospitals in the EU, the NAFTA region, in China, Malaysia and India. In 2011, he switched back to Siemens Industry and was the Director of the electric motor plant in Guadalajara, Mexico. In a publication “The Five Fundamental Jigsaw Pieces for Successful Lean Implementation”, he describes how his plant in Mexico mastered the Lean journey to become fully sustainable. In 2015, he returned to Germany as VP of Manufacturing for the Business Unit “Factory Automation”, Siemens AG. In this position, he is managing the ecosystem of several electronic plants, some of which are amongst the most advanced in the world and the epitome of digitalisation. Since 2016, he leads the digital transformation of 22 plants for the “Digital Factory” division and dedicates 50% of his time on the definition of the digital roadmap. In the book “Handbuch Industrie 4.0” (published 2017; Translation: Handbook Industry 4.0), he describes what it means to run a full digital manufacturing site.
